In June 2004, The Whispering
Seed moved to a new piece of land in Western Thailand along the Burmese. After
losing the farm in Pittsanulok back in January, it has been a long long search
but finally we have landed again!!!
The money to purchase the land was raised completely by the Rainbow Caravan.

The land is situated in Wiakhadi, a small village about 25kilometers outside of the town of Sangklaburi. The land is about 25 rai (about 12 acres) and is located in a beautiful river valley about 8 kilometers from the Burmese border. The majority of people living in the local area are from three ethnic groups; Karen and Mon (Hilltribe groups from Thailand and Burma) and also Burmese migrants (refugees or displaced people). Most of these people do not speak Thai language, instead, Karen, Mon and Burmese are the main languages that you will here. Each evening we are working with the local children to learn Karen language. We plan to be a center for youth to come and learn to read and write in the Karen script, as they are discouraged from speaking in their native language and basic skills of reading and writing in the Karen script are already being lost. |

We have no electricity
on the land and our drinking water comes from two sources, rain water
catchment and from a spring at this waterfall in the jungle close to the
land. We currently have a simple bamboo hut on the land and do all of
our cooking over an open fire, with wood being collected from the jungle
behind the land. |

There is a magnificent river flowing through the land which comes from inside Burma and passes through the village of Molaka just on the border before reaching our farm. The river is our source of laughter and joy. Bathtime is always a treat and especially fun during the rainy season when river is overflowing and moving really fast!! We draw water from the river for dishwashing and water the plants in the garden.

We are currently living in a bamboo
hut which we built during the rainy season. Starting this November, we will be building a mud brick kitchen and several other buildings while there is no rain during the dry season. |

Currently we are supporting two Karen
Hilltribe families to live on the land with us. Between the two families
there are six children. |
