Saowanee Sangkara (Nao)
Nao is from Thailand and has been in the US for a few years teaching art and classes based on Thai culture and awareness of cultural studies. She graduated from Srinakarinwirot University in 1998 and since then she has dedicated her life to work in grassroots organizations and moved to live in a rural area of Thailand to lead a self-sufficient and sustainable life. She built her own bamboo hut, grows vegetables and started a business to support The Whispering Seed, Flowers from Real Leaves. She completed the Teacher Education Program of the National Coalition of Alternative Community Schools (NCACS). In 2003, she started working on translating alternative education books from English into Thai. She is creating a program called, Living and Learning in Community for cross-cultural learners to have life experiences through intensive internships in Thailand.
 

Jim Connor has been working with children for over ten years. He is a certified elementary school teacher, but has worked with and run programs for children of all ages, from infants through high school. He also taught at The Evergreen State College in Washington State. He has led several trainings in holistic and sustainable learning and sustainable living skills in Thailand, Burma and China. He has traveled extensively through Western Europe on his bicycle and has also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, Bali and India for educational purposes. He is an avid believer in learning through play and is dedicated to incorporating principles of non-violence into his work with children. He has been a board member of the NCACS for seven years and has helped to organize several international conferences on alternative education. Jim is able to speak basic Thai and Burmese and can read and write at a basic level in Thai, Burmese and Hindi.
